ChatGPT is a language model that generates fluent, contextually relevant responses to prompts in a conversational fashion. Because it can generate fluent text in multiple languages, it is gaining popularity among enterprise users who are using it to help with the writing process, to explore new topics, and to write code.
ChatGPT users
The graph below shows the percentage of active Netskope NG-SWG users accessing ChatGPT daily over a four-week period (the dips are the weekends). The percentage of users accessing ChatGPT daily is growing exponentially, at a rate of 6% per week during this period. For the week of May 29 through June 2, just shy of 1% of active users accessed ChatGPT each day. But not all ChatGPT users access the app on a daily basis: a total 2.5% of all users active over the same four-week period used ChatGPT at least once throughout that period.
For comparison, other apps that have similar popularity in the enterprise include:
- Adobe Creative Cloud
- Atlassian Confluence
- Atlassian Jira
- Canva
- DocuSign
- Dropbox
- Grammarly
- Zendesk
ChatGPT prompts per user
The number of prompts enterprise users are submitting to ChatGPT is also growing exponentially, driven by the growth in the number of users. On average, a ChatGPT user submits 6 prompts per day, with the top 10 percent of users submitting 23 prompts per day and the top 1% of users submitting 72 prompts per day.
ChatGPT popularity by industry vertical
The popularity of ChatGPT varies significantly by industry. The two industries with the lowest percentage of ChatGPT users are financial services and healthcare, both of which are highly regulated industries. At the other end of the spectrum are technology companies, where ChatGPT is more than 3x as popular.
