By 2025, there will be 55.7 billion connected IoT devices (or “things”), generating almost 80B zettabytes (ZB) of data. These are just some of the statistics that underscore enormous opportunity in IoT—and the enormous security risks all those IoT devices create.
Netskope today thrives at the intersection of how network, data, and cloud security are transforming, which is part of why enterprise IoT security is a natural next step to expand our capabilities. Today, I am very pleased to announce that we have acquired WootCloud, an emerging innovator in enterprise IoT device security. Soon, our Intelligent SSE platform—including how we enable enterprises to apply zero trust principles when governing access to critical data—will extend all the way from the cloud and the network to managing enterprise IoT devices at scale.
WootCloud was founded in 2016, and its team includes engineers and go-to-market leaders with experience from Symantec/Elastica, Webroot, Qualys, Bosch, Cisco, Dell, IBM, Wipro, and others. As our leadership team came to know CEO Amit Srivastav and Founder and Chief of Products & Technology Srinivas Akella in recent months, it became clear that we all share a vision for where the market is headed and how we can offer enterprises and governments clear-cut guidance and the best technology for securing people, devices, apps, and data everywhere.
WootCloud critical use cases include:
- Device classification and visibility to discover managed and unmanaged devices, classify and provide contextual information, and provide deep insights that “true-up” an asset inventory
- Device Risk, dynamically ascertained by continuous real-time monitoring to detect malicious behavior, and exchange device attributes with security operations tools for remedial actions.
- Access control and segmentation to offer dynamic asset grouping, automate network segmentation, and facilitate various actions using existing Network Access Control (NAC), firewalls, access points, and other technologies
- Cybersecurity asset management to drive compliance with corporate policies and gain insights into license use, helping to optimize the total IT environment
