Speee Inc., which drives digital transformation (DX) through a chain of data‑driven business development initiatives across diverse areas—including financial DX and legacy‑industry DX—has rapidly expanded its business on an operational environment built around SaaS and cloud services. However, as cloud usage grew, challenges began to surface: increasingly complex security management and limitations in network performance. The key focus for the company was how to enforce governance without compromising user freedom and operational speed. To achieve this, Speee chose the SSE (Security Service Edge) solution Netskope.

With advanced controls that provide visibility down to user actions within SaaS applications, combined with network performance that maintains a seamless user experience, Netskope has significantly transformed and elevated Speee’s security posture.

Essential SaaS Utilization for Business Growth—and the Rising Challenge of Invisible Security Risks

Speee Inc., whose mission is “Solving complexities to pull the future closer,” has expanded its business across several core areas: legacy‑industry DX for sectors such as real estate, renovation, and caregiving; DX consulting; and financial DX. Leveraging SaaS and cloud services has become indispensable as the technological foundation supporting the company’s advanced, innovation‑driven business growth.

At the same time, new challenges began to surface for the Information Systems Department. Takuya Matsumoto, who oversees network infrastructure within the Information Systems Group, recalls the group’s mission and the issues they were facing.

                                case-study-spee-01

“Our mission is to build an infrastructure that can flexibly and quickly adapt to diversified business expansion and organizational growth. However, as SaaS usage increased across daily operations, it became difficult to track which users were accessing which cloud services—and how. What particularly concerned us was the use of personal accounts for cloud storage. We had limited means to confirm whether business‑critical data was being stored in the appropriate, governed locations.”

In addition, the team began to see clear limitations in their network architecture, which routed all traffic through an on‑premises data center. Matsumoto explains, “Even when accessing cloud services from outside the office, users had to connect through VPN and pass through our data center, and our resources were already strained. This not only caused slower performance but also continued to increase the operational and maintenance burden on the Information Systems team.”

As SaaS adoption grew, challenges became increasingly evident on both fronts—security risk visibility and network performance.

From an operational standpoint, the management console was intuitive and gave us a clear picture of what day‑to‑day administration would look like post‑deployment, this usability further reinforced our decision to choose Netskope.

Choosing SSE and Why Netskope Stood Out: Granular Visibility as the Deciding Factor

To break through these challenges, the company turned its attention to SSE (Security Service Edge) solutions, which integrate functions such as SWG (Secure Web Gateway), CASB (Cloud Access Security Broker), and ZTNA (Zero Trust Network Access).

“To enable secure use of cloud services from any location, we realized that key security functions needed to shift to the cloud,” says Matsumoto. “This would allow us to eliminate network bottlenecks while reducing the operational burden on our IT team.”

Speee conducted evaluations of multiple SSE products, including PoC (Proof of Concept) testing. During the selection process, the company focused heavily on maintaining the level of governance required of a publicly listed company while also preserving the autonomy and speed that have defined its culture since its founding—ultimately balancing user freedom with strong security.

                                spee-02-520x293

Among the candidates, Netskope was selected as the final choice. One of the decisive factors was the granularity of its visibility. Matsumoto explains “Compared to competing products, Netskope offered superior visibility—not only showing which SaaS applications were being used but also what actions were performed within those applications. Being able to track activities at the level of creating shared links or uploading files made a significant difference.”

Network performance was another evaluation criterion during the PoC.

“We measured actual latency across several products, and Netskope had the lowest latency and the fastest user experience,” Matsumoto says. “Since this directly impacts user productivity, it was a critical factor for us.”

Ease of administration also played a key role. “From an operational standpoint, the management console was intuitive and gave us a clear picture of what day‑to‑day administration would look like post‑deployment,” Matsumoto adds. “This usability further reinforced our decision to choose Netskope.”

With Netskope, when a user performs a high‑risk action in a SaaS application, a warning pop‑up can appear directly on their screen. Instead of uniformly prohibiting actions, it explains why something is risky and steers users toward safer behavior.

Moving Toward “Guided Security Operations” That Inform Users of Risks Without Disrupting Their Work

The rollout of Netskope began in July 2025. After a phased release starting in September, deployment to roughly 1,000 users was completed by October. With Netskope in place, Speee’s security operations underwent a significant transformation—most notably in how the company guides user behavior.

Under traditional security measures, it was common to completely block certain actions or functions in order to avoid risk. “As a result, the network would sometimes come to a halt, causing operational disruptions,” Matsumoto recalls.

                                spee-03-520x293

“With Netskope, when a user performs a high‑risk action in a SaaS application, a warning pop‑up can appear directly on their screen. Instead of uniformly prohibiting actions, it explains why something is risky and steers users toward safer behavior,” says Matsumoto.

In practice, the system has already detected incidents that could be considered near‑misses. One example involved a user potentially handling business data on a personal account while using a generative AI service. “This could have led to a serious data‑leak incident,” Matsumoto explains. “Because we detected it in advance, we were able to directly advise the user and guide them toward recommended AI tools. Netskope made it possible to take the right action at the right time.”

In this way, Netskope functions as a foundation that preserves user freedom while clearly defining the boundaries of unacceptable risk—ensuring governance is maintained without compromising productivity.

Netskope’s granular SaaS visibility and guided controls are unmatched, enabling strong governance without impacting performance.

30% Lower Latency: Improving User Experience While Reducing IT Operational Overhead

In addition to the security benefits described above, one of the clearest impacts of implementing Netskope has been the improvement in network access. By optimizing traffic routes through Netskope’s SWG capabilities, the company achieved approximately 30% improvement in latency based on actual measurements. “In our internal surveys, employees consistently reported that connections felt smoother and overall speed had improved. User satisfaction clearly increased,” says Matsumoto.

At the same time, the company has been able to phase out its on‑premises VPN appliances, leading to a significant reduction in annual facility‑related costs. With the burden of operating and maintaining VPN equipment lifted, the IT department can now devote more time to higher‑value initiatives.

                                velocidade-04-520x293-1

These achievements were highly praised by company leadership, and Matsumoto—who led the project—was awarded the company‑wide MVP recognition.

Looking ahead, Speee aims to further strengthen its zero‑trust network environment while maintaining user autonomy and freedom. “By deepening the integration between Netskope and our existing security tools—such as EDR, EPP, and SIEM—we hope to unify our fragmented security measures and enhance our defensive posture as a whole,” Matsumoto explains.

As AI agents become increasingly embedded across internal operations, autonomously exchanging and processing data, Netskope will continue to play an essential role in enabling the coexistence of advanced AI utilization and strong security.
