Approach combines real-time API inspection capabilities with contextual data to greatly reduce signal-to-noise ratio
LOS ALTOS, Calif. — June 4, 2018 — Netskope, the leader in cloud security, today announced that it has been issued United States Patent 9,928,377 for systems and methods of monitoring and controlling enterprise information stored on a cloud computing service (CCS). The patent recognizes the ability of the data loss prevention (DLP) capabilities of the Netskope Security Cloud to contextualize and view real-time data movement at the application programming interface (API) level, giving security and data protection teams granular control of data transactions across Software-as-a-Service (SaaS), Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS), Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS), and the web. This ability protects sensitive data and ensures organizations are able to remain compliant with global compliance standards such as PCI/DSS, GDPR, and HIPAA.

The patent affirms Netskope intellectual property in providing the ability to understand user activity and see the corresponding API data in real time to identify exactly what the user is doing (including but not limited to uploading, downloading, sharing, etc.). Using this technology, security admins can prevent exfiltration of sensitive data to personal instances of cloud services and social media profiles, both empowering organizations to enable their workforce to access sensitive data on a personal device and preventing a user from downloading the data to that device. The patented approach also enables organizations to selectively apply data protection technologies — such as encryption and information rights management (IRM) — to balance the usability and security of data in the cloud.
