Amanda Crawford

Amanda Crawford is the Executive Director of DIR and serves as the Chief Information Officer for the State of Texas. In this role, she is responsible for the overall leadership, direction, and daily operations of DIR, an agency with an annual fiscal profile of more than $4 billion per year. DIR’s responsibilities include protecting the state’s data and critical technology infrastructure, managing a multi-billion dollar cooperative contracts program, and providing strategic technology leadership, solutions, and innovation to all levels of Texas government. Under Mandy’s leadership, DIR led the state’s successful response to the 2019 ransomware attack that affected over 20 local government entities in Texas and secured the transition to the next-generation suite of managed IT services offered through DIR’s Shared Technology Services program.

Prior to leading the team at DIR, Mandy served at the Office of the Attorney General of Texas (OAG) for more than 17 years. She held various positions at the OAG, including ultimately serving for two and a half years as the Deputy Attorney General for Administration and General Counsel. Mandy also served as a faculty member for the National Attorneys General Training Research Institute’s Center for Leadership Development, teaching managerial leadership across the country.

Mike Anderson

Mike Anderson serves as Chief Digital and Information Officer for Netskope. Over the past 25 years, he has built and led high-performing teams across various disciplines, including sales, operations, business development, and information technology. He joined Netskope from Schneider Electric, a global fortune 500 company, serving as SVP, CIO and Digital Leader for North America. In 2020, Constellation Research named him a member of the Business Transformation 150, an elite list that recognizes the top global executives leading business transformation efforts in their organizations. The National Diversity Council also recognized him as a Top 50 CIO for diversity and inclusion in 2020 and 2021. Before Schneider Electric, Mike served as CIO for CROSSMARK, where he digitally transformed the business capabilities for the 40,000 employee service provider to the retail and consumer goods industry. Also, he has held executive leadership roles at Enterprise Mobile, a Microsoft joint venture that is now part of Honeywell, Insight, Software Spectrum, and InVerge, a web services pioneer he co-founded in 1999. Mike serves on numerous technology and industry advisory boards and volunteers his time working with nonprofits focused on mental health and suicide prevention and those that benefit the development of our future workforce in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

Amanda Crawford: If you use a computer or the internet, you have a role to play in keeping our state safe. If you're a developer, it means that security needs to be injected throughout the development process. If you're a network manager, the tools need to be tuned to be able to respond to those threats. So, role by role, each of us really need to consider how we are part of the team.

I'm our Chief Digital and Information Officer here at Netskope. Today, I'm excited to have Amanda Crawford. She is our CIO for the State of Texas joining me today. Welcome this morning to our podcast. So, tell the audience a little bit about yourself, your role with the state of Texas.

Amanda Crawford: Hi, Mike. Thanks. I'm glad to be here. I have the privilege of serving as the Executive Director of the Texas Department of Information Resources, as well as the State of Texas Chief Information Officer. I have been in this role, gosh, I'm losing a little bit of track and especially with the years from the pandemic that all seemed to be kind of a weird time stop. It'll be four years, I believe, in February. And with the CIO role for a little bit less time, I originally came and joined the agency as Executive Director. And then when the prior CIO retired, the board asked me to assume this role as well. And so, it's been certainly an exciting time to be in this role and it's one that I really enjoy.
Texas is a highly federated model. We joke in the state technology community that if you've seen one state, you've seen one state. Every state is set up a little bit differently. So, here with the role for my agency for DIR, as we ca
