                                            UNITED ARROWS Implements Netskope in Line with Cloud Migration, Achieves Integrated Operation of SWG, RBI, and CASB

                                            UNITED ARROWS LTD., a well-known name in the apparel industry in Japan, handles numerous in-house brands and carefully selected items from Japan and abroad. As part of this initiative and driven by the shift from on-premises to cloud infrastructure, UNITED ARROWS implemented Netskope.

                                            Leveraging a system replacement to shift from on-premises to the cloud with CASB in focus

                                            UNITED ARROWS LTD. is an apparel company that plans and sells its own brands and selects fashion items from around the world. To enhance the customer experience, the company has launched a variety of DX initiatives, including the establishment of a DX Promotion Center and the adoption of its mid-term management policy “UA DIGITAL Strategy.” In February 2024, it was recognized by Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry as a “DX Certified Company” for meeting the requirements of the Digital Governance Code and demonstrating preparedness for DX.

                                             

                                            The central driver behind these DX initiatives is the IT Solutions Division. Executive Officer and CIO Yuji Suzumura said, “Our division’s role is to define what IT should do to support business challenges and management strategies. Based on that direction, our application and infrastructure teams carry out specific projects.”

                                            Hiroaki Sato, General Manager of the IT Service Platform Division, which oversees the infrastructure side, explained several reasons behind their decision to implement Netskope.“The existing on-premise security systems, including proxy filtering and file sanitization tools, were nearing the end of their support lifecycles. Additionally, even before the recent workstyle reforms and the COVID-19 pandemic, we had been considering a move to the cloud.”

                                             

                                            As the network transitioned from on-premise to the cloud, the company aimed not only to replace its existing SWG and RBI but also to add CASB functionality and integrate these components for unified management.

                                            The existing on-premise security systems, including proxy filtering and file sanitization tools, were nearing the end of their support lifecycles. Additionally, even before the recent workstyle reforms and the COVID-19 pandemic, we had been considering a move to the cloud.

                                            Scalability, a unified platform, and strong support were key to choosing Netskope

                                            The evaluation of Netskope began in 2022, timed with the start of the new fiscal year in April. Budget planning and discussions with upper management were carried out in parallel. Sato said,“Because the investment was large, we thoroughly explained to the management team, including the president, both the current risks and the necessity of strengthening our security posture.”After gaining consensus in a management meeting, the implementation officially kicked off in May.

                                             

                                            The IT Service Platform Division reviewed several security products. Netskope was selected based on three main factors:

                                            • It offered high scalability, supporting not just SWG and RBI replacement but also CASB integration.
                                            • It featured a unified management console, eliminating the need for separate logins by function and enabling centralized policy settings for easier operations.
                                            • Its post-deployment support structure was well established, ensuring that the system would be supported through day-to-day operation.
                                            • Netskope met all of these criteria with a high level of functionality and completeness.

                                            Before the company-wide rollout, we released Netskope in the IT department to validate it. During that phase, there were some minor issues due to configuration errors, but once we were confident, we expanded it company-wide. I believe this phased approach helped ensure a smooth and successful deployment.

                                            Maintaining strong security post-migration and enabling SOC outsourcing

                                            Nearly two years have passed since Netskope was implemented. The system has been deployed to nearly 2,000 Windows devices across the company, and there have been no major incidents or complaints from users.

                                             

                                            Suzumura recalled, “Before the company-wide rollout, we released Netskope in the IT department to validate it. During that phase, there were some minor issues due to configuration errors, but once we were confident, we expanded it company-wide. I believe this phased approach helped ensure a smooth and successful deployment.”

                                            Sato commented on the post-implementation benefits.

                                             

                                            “While the benefits are qualitative, we were able to replace our legacy products while still meeting existing security requirements after transitioning to the cloud. By using both SWG and CASB, we gained visibility into cloud service usage, enabling us to detect risky behavior and take actions such as isolation or blocking. As a result, we’ve also made it possible to outsource our SOC operations.”

                                            Our fundamental stance is that everything we do is for the customer. We must protect customer information properly, manage risks appropriately, and use IT to enhance operational efficiency and convenience. We will continue to strengthen our security measures to ensure safe, secure, and effective operations.

                                            Accelerating DX toward a better customer experience and maximizing Netskope’s potential

                                            While the migration to the cloud and implementation of Netskope were significant achievements, UNITED ARROWS continues to pursue broader DX goals. The company is currently working on modernizing its core merchandise management system to optimize its supply chain and preparing to digitalize its procurement processes.

                                             

                                            Suzumura said, “We also want to further enhance the digital transformation of our stores. For example, when a customer’s alteration is complete, we usually notify them by phone. However, depending on the timing, they may not be able to answer. For a better customer experience, we need a digital notification system that fits the customer’s schedule.”

                                            Meanwhile, Sato emphasized the importance of strengthening security. “Our fundamental stance is that everything we do is for the customer. We must protect customer information properly, manage risks appropriately, and use IT to enhance operational efficiency and convenience. We will continue to strengthen our security measures to ensure safe, secure, and effective operations.”

                                             

                                            Both executives emphasized their shared view. “The job doesn’t end with simply installing a product,” they stated. “To fully unlock the potential of Netskope, we will continue to invest in employee training and actively leverage Netskope’s support framework.”
